Look into numerous builders and find any customer reviews on each one. Look at the pricing they provide you with, and then compare time frames and materials the deck builder will be using. The best one should combine a reasonable price with quality materials.
Cost is always going to be an issue when thinking of constructing a deck. And a builder that only uses the best materials usually has a higher quote than other builders; however, don’t simply dismiss this. When a builder provides you with a quote, ask specific questions regarding the materials they will be using. Cedar is an excellent choice of wood due to the fact that it is mold and mildew resistant, in addition to insect infestations; however, it does cost significantly more than other lumber. Pressure treated wood also costs more than untreated ones. A quality builder will always use treated wood, in order to prevent damage being done to the deck. Ask what type of hardware the deck builder intends to use, stainless steel and other non corrosion metals must be used for the likes of plates and screws.

Ask the homeowners if they are happy with the builders work, and if they are having problems with the builder after using their deck. Look for any problems with the design, like warping or damaged wood, loose railings etc.
Hire a builder who is capable of building your project. If you are planning on building a more intricate deck, which has numerous levels or a pool deck, make sure your builder has sufficient experience to do so.
